FAQ'S

Thanks for coming to our FAQ page.  There is A LOT of information here (maybe too much)!

We've tried to cover most all questions that our guests might have, but in the event that we haven't answered your question below please Contact Us and we'll be happy to get you an answer and assist you so that you can book your mountain getaway today!

  • Cleaning, Covid-19

Our cleaning fee is $65 per stay.  We don't require guests strip the beds, do the laundry and take out the trash before they leave... it's a vacation!

We are looking forward to having you stay with us and would like all of our guests to know that we are taking extra care in making sure that you feel confident at our mountain log cabins.  We know that coming to a clean and disinfected vacation home is now more important than ever.

As always, our cleaning staff will continue to operate with high standards of cleaning and sanitizing.  Our cabins are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized in-between guests to include: cabin keys, door knobs, linens, remotes, light switches, hot tub, countertops, bathroom fixtures, etc.

This is our commitment to our guests.

Disclaimer: An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present.  By visiting Meraki Escape you voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19.

  • Adult Only (No Children)

Guests must be 25 or older.  Infants and Children are not allowed.  Guests that arrive with infants or children will be redirected to local hotels. Our occupancy is two persons maximum and is strictly enforced.  If guests are wanting to invite someone to come and preview our property and/or our cabins, please Contact Us in advance.

  • Deposits & Cancellation Policy

    GRAND OPENING CANCELLATION POLICY

As part of our Grand Opening, we are offering the following cancellation policy for 2024.

A 50% deposit is due at the time of booking.  The remaining 50% is due seven (7) days before your arrival date.  Guests may cancel up to 60 days prior to their arrival date and receive a full refund.  For cancellations 59 to 8 days’ notice; guest will receive a full refund minus a $16 cancellation fee.  For cancellations within seven (7) days or less of your arrival date; there will be no refund.

There are no refunds for no-show’s, early departures, or guests that are redirected to hotels because they arrived with children.

  • Check-in/out Times & Minimum Stay

Our check-in time is 4:00 PM and our check-out time is 11:00 AM. Meraki Escape is located on a private road, if you will be arriving earlier than 4:00pm please Contact Us for permission and instructions.

Guests wanting a late check-out may do so for a small fee (depending on availibility).  Please Contact Us for more information.

Our minimum stay requirement is 2 nights.  That said, we are flexible when we can be and will entertain shorter bookings based on our reservations. Contact Us for more information.

  • Why can't I check-in/out on Saturday's?

We offer our guests the opportunity to Escape! Not having Saturday or Holiday check in/out allows guests a more peaceful Escape.  In addition, this helps us group our cabin cleanings and scheduled maintenance for days when most or all of the cabins are accessible so as not to disturb our guests.

  • Wheelchair Accessible?

We're sorry but our cabins and grounds are not wheelchair accessible.  They may not be appropriate for persons with physical handicaps.  Please look extensively at our photos to determine if Meraki Escape is right for you.

  • WiFi?

Our cabins are set up for an Escape, an opportunity for guests to get away from it all and "unplug" - Just tell everyone that you'll have zero reception up on the mountain!

However, we realize that in today’s times connectivity is key, especially for business travelers.  We will have WiFi by end of MAY!  This was promised to us by Comporium, our internet provider.

Comporium has us scheduled to install High Speed Fiber Optic to our cabins; expected by the end of MAY 2024.  In the meantime, Cell Service is available in the cabins and on the property. Strength of signal depends on your carrier.  AT&T and Verizon tend to offer the strongest signals.

  • Do the cabins have AC?

Yes, our cabins have standard HVAC units with heat and air conditioning, just like your home.
Guests are welcome to adjust the temperature to their preference during their stay.

  • Quiet Hours

Meraki Escape asks guests to observe quiet hours from 10pm to 8am.

  • Housekeeping

We do not offer Daily housekeeping.  Housekeeping is offered once every 7 (seven) days for our longer stay guests.  If guests require a change of towels or linens, please Contact Us  and we will be happy to bring replacements.

  • Trash & Recycling?

Each cabin has a trash and recycling bin inside the cabin.  Please leave all trash and recycling inside the cabin and housekeeping will dispose of it upon check out.  If you have filled one of your bins and need it removed, please call or trext us and we will come and pick it up.

Black bears do live in Gorges State Park (1/2 mile from Meraki Escape) and we take precautions such as storing all trash indoors, no food in the outside dog waste bins, and no bird feeders to deter them and luckily haven’t had one visit the cabins or our property.

  • Lost or Left Behind

We are happy to return items left behind by our guests.  There is no charge for this service but we do pass along the shipping fee to our guests.

  • Smoking?

Our log cabins and grounds are non-smoking.   Our smoking guests are free to smoke on their cabin’s porch and we ask that you use the provided ashtray to dispose of your cigarette butt.  If it is determined that you have been smoking in our log cabin, then you will be charged a $350.00 fee to cover cleaning and loss of revenue.

  • Reservations & Questions

Please click on BOOK NOW anywhere on our site to access our real time calendar and reserve your log cabin at any time 24/7.

We encourage guests to look at all of our photos and dive into our webiste before making their reservation.  That way you can choose what cabin is best for your Escape.  We only want happy guests!

We're more than happy to answer any questions you have.  For the fastest reponse, and to assure there are no misunderstanings or games of phone tag, please send us an email via the Contact Us page.  If you don't have internet access please don't hesitate to give us a call or send us a text.

  • Policies

To view our policies click here.

  • Do I need AWD / SUV / 4WD?

At this time, YES.   AWD or SUV is required for the short, steep gravel section - just until we pave.  There  are no dropoffs, it's just that short section that requires the power.

Due to the financial loss we were faced with as a result of being a victum of fraud by a dishonest builder we were forced to use the funds that were set aside to pave the driveway to complete the building of the cabins.

We will pave the road as soon as we can so that all vehicles may enjoy our little mountian.

If you know that getting groceries will be a challange due to travel, we do offer a Grocery Shop & Stock service. Orders must be place at least 72 hours in advance.

  • PRIVACY while at the Cabin?

Meraki Escape's mountain log cabins are  intentionally situated for privacy!  We have 2 cabins spread out over 10 acres with self-check in. You can check in, stay in your cabin, and never see another soul! Some guests choose to spend their entire Escape in their cabin, some venture only as far as our waterfalls for yoga or meditation, others head out every day for hikes, waterfall adventures or to explore one of our nearby towns; Brevard, Lake Toxaway, Cashiers.  We are committed to providing our guests with the opportunity to Escape!

  • HOT TUBS? Are swimsuits required?

Yes, each of our cabins have a hot tub under the covered porch looking out toward the forest or mountain view. We have intentially situated the cabins for privacy.  Luxurious Robes are provided for guests comfort.  Are swimsuits required?  That's up to you!

  • MOUNTAIN VIEW? All cabins?

Although our cabins are intentionally situated for privacy and seclusion, nested 2,800 ft high in the mountains with short to mid-range mountain views through the landscaped forest, if you are looking for year-round long-range mountain views Meraki Escape may not be right for you.  When the leaves fall from the trees our log cabins offer longer range mountain views.  If you look closely from our Ukiyo cabin you can even spot Lake Jocassee in the far distance!

  • Dogs-Flea/Tick Prevention-Breed Restrictions?

Only FRIENDLY Dogs for now so unfortunately cats or other pets are not permitted.  Guests are required to keep their dogs leashed and under their control at all times when outside at the cabins - unless they are enjoying Ukiyo cabin's fenced-in field.  NO CATS ALLOWED.

You are required to have flea/tick protection on your dog(s).  We do charge a $45 Pet Fee – a one time fee that covers two pets for the entire length of your stay!  A maximum of two dogs are allowed per unit.

Please refer to our Pet Policy page for more information.

  • EV Charging Station

Each of our mountain log cabins have a Level 2 Electrical Vehicle Charging Station at their designated parking spot. We charge a $20 fee for this service.  If you'll need a charge please ADD this to your reservation to assure the station is unlocked when you arrive.  You can plug in and enjoy the convivence of charging your vehicle while you sleep so you'll be ready for the next day's adventures!

  • Why do you need my License Plate?

We represent the same hospitality standards that you would expect from an upscale resort, but with an added personal touch.  We strive to give guests a private and peaceful Escape.  We ask for your vehicle identification so that we may assure no strangers or unwanted guests are on the property.

  • Can I bring my RV or Trailer?

No.  We're very sorry but we are unable to accommodate RVs or Trailers.  There is one parking space per cabin.  Additional parking is available by the bike washing station.  Please refer to our Map. The street is narrow and for safety reasons guest can not park on the street.

  • Best time to stay?

The best answer... any time!  The mountains are a cool respite in the summer, gorgeous in the fall (especially on the Blue Ridge Parkway Meraki Escape Loop) and serene in the winter!

Some say that winter is the prettiest time as you can see forever in the crisp air during the day (even a glimpse of Lake Jocassee) , then snuggle up by the fireplace and feel cozy at night.  Or perhaps sit with a book from our cabin library and enjoy the mountain peace. Spring is quite a marvel too as the absence of leaves on the trees give guest the most stunning mountain views, plus have the bonus of the Mountain Laurel and Rhodendrum that blankets our mountain along with the sparkling fireflies across the horizon greeting the new season in a riot of vibrant color.

  • What is there to do at Meraki Escape?

Hike, bike, swim, fish, run, kayak, tube, shop, eat, drink, river snorkel, horseback ride, listen to music, visit a brewery, or just ESCAPE the world and enjoy the solitude of the cabin!  Please visit our Things to Do page or our Travel Guide for our area activities.

  • HIKING at Meraki Escape

Meraki Escape's Triple Creek Trail!  It is a ½ mile moderate loop that starts at the dog/bike washing station.  A descending hike takes hikers along a few switch backs before they reach the bottom where the trail connects to Meraki Lane.  This section of the trail meanders along the main creek and past all 3 waterfalls and back up to the cabins.  The trail is moderate and hikers are advised to hike at their own risk.

    > Please be respectful of other guests while using the trail or at the waterfalls and remember that dogs are required to be on a leash at all times (and don’t forget to bring a baggie with you to pick up your dog’s waste).

For our area trails, Gorges State Park’s Frozen Creek entrance is ½ mile from Meraki Escape, or guests may choose to go to Pantertown Valley or Pisgah National Forest.  Please see our Things to Do page or our Concierge Book.

  • Backpack Rental

If you're new to hiking, or arriving by plane, and don't have room in your luggage for your day-hiking backpack(s) you don't have to forgo the amazing day-hiking opportunites here!  We have day-hiking backpacks and other gear for guests to rent.  Please Contact Us for availability and reservations.

For those new to hiking, please constact our Concierge Specialist.  We would be so pleased to help facilitate your day-hiking and waterfall chasing adventures!

  • Is Brevard a Rain Forest?

Gorges State Park is a Temperate Rain Forest and Meraki Escape is ½ mile a way.

In Gorges State Park the average yearly rainfall is over 80 inches creating a temperate rain forest. The rainfall is a result of orographic lift which occurs when an air mass is forced from a low elevation to a higher elevation as it moves over the rising terrain.  The land at Gorges State Park (and Meraki Escape) rises over 2, 000 feet in just 4 miles. The air mass gains altitude it expands and cools adiabatically.   This cooler air cannot hold the moisture as well as warm air can, which effectively raises the relative humidity to 100%, creating clouds and frequent precipitation.

  • Wildlife? Bears?

When designing Meraki Escape, we went to great lengths to preserve the forest environment for guests to enjoy alongside modern comforts.  Please understand that you may encounter mosquitos, gnats, ticks and other wildlife such as deer, turkey, birds, butterflies, squirrels, fox, etc. around the cabins.  Black bears do live in Gorges State Park (1/2 mile from Meraki Escape) and we take precautions such as storing all trash indoors, no food in the outside dog waste bins, and no bird feeders to deter the bears and luckily haven’t had one visit the cabins or our property yet.  Our resident dog, Parker, as well as our neighbor dog, Dixie, also help to scare any curious bears off.

  • Hunting?

No Hunting Allowed at Meraki Escape. No firearms or weapons of any kind are allowed to be discharged on our property.

  • What should I bring with me?

Please see our Travel Packing Checklist for what we suggest you bring.

    • On the corner of  Gaston & Jordan street there are a few spots in the church parking lot.  Use the Blind Mule for GPS.
    • There's also a somewhat hidden free lot behind the PNC bank on Jordan street behind PNC bank.

Pay to park lots:  There are two paid lots that are kiddy corner of each other on Jordan & Caldwell Street. Use Jordan Street Cafe for GPS.

  • Airport Transportation - Uber - Taxi

The ride options here in Brevard are very limited. While there are several options for airport transport from Ashville Regional Airport (AVL), once you arrive at Meraki Escape it is not certain that a taxi or ride service would be available to take you to/from town. Ubers & Lyfts are sometimes available but there have been complaints of no-show’s so please bear that in mind.  Beyond that we do have a few companies that are for hire.  We highly recommend booking in advance.
