At Meraki Escape, celebrations are not chosen from a menu — they are designed with intention, care, and heart. 

MERAKI ESCAPE'S ELOPEMENTS AND CELEBRATION POLICIES 

These policies are a summary of our elopement and celebration terms. Complete terms and event-specific details will be provided in your Wedding, Elopement & Special Event Agreement for review and signature as part of confirming your event.

Reservation, Payment & Cancellation: A deposit of 50% of your selected package total, along with your cabin reservation, is required to secure your elopement or celebration date. The remaining balance is due in full seven (7) days prior to your ceremony, along with your cabin balance.   For cancellations made more than 30 days prior to your elopement or celebration date, the deposit will be refunded minus the non-refundable $500 Wedding Specialist Retainer and a 3% credit-card processing fee associated with the original transaction. Within 30 days of your event date, all payments become non-refundable due to vendor commitments and the exclusive reservation of your date. Cabin reservations are governed by separate lodging payment and cancellation policies.

Guest Count: All elopements and celebrations must remain within the maximum guest count specified in your selected package. Meraki Escape is a strictly adults-only property, and all ceremonies and celebrations are limited to guests 25 years of age and older. Guests who arrive with infants or children will be asked to leave the property immediately. Failure to comply may result in cancellation of the elopement or celebration without refund.

Marriage Requirements: For legal marriage ceremonies, couples are responsible for obtaining a valid marriage license and confirming an authorized officiant and the two witnesses required by North Carolina law. 

Event Timing & Weather: The beauty of an outdoor celebration in the Blue Ridge Mountains is part of the magic of Meraki Escape, and thoughtful weather planning helps ensure your day remains just as special if Mother Nature has other plans. At the time of contracting, couples are required to select a rain plan—either our covered creekside pavilion or a pre-approved alternative off-property location.  All hosted outdoor event activities conclude by 7:00 p.m. for safety. The couple, together with their Wedding Specialist, will make the final ceremony-location decision based on the forecast and conditions, with Meraki Escape notified no later than 10:00 a.m. the day before the event. Once communicated, that decision is final and your selected plan will be thoughtfully put into motion. Meraki Escape reserves the right to require relocation if conditions present a safety risk to any person or the property.

Event Liability Insurance:  Event insurance is not required. Couples may elect to purchase cancellation or postponement coverage for added protection, if desired.

Alcohol: If alcohol will be part of your celebration, arrangements must be approved in advance by Meraki Escape and comply with applicable laws and event policies. Meraki Escape reserves the right to discontinue alcohol service or consumption if necessary for safety or legal compliance.

Vendor & Property Use: Only approved vendors coordinated through Meraki Escape may provide services on property unless otherwise agreed upon in writing. All décor installations must be pre-approved. Nails, staples, open flame, or alterations to the natural landscape are not permitted. The waterfall, trails, and forest areas are natural environments, and guests acknowledge the inherent risks associated with outdoor terrain.

Natural Environment & & Unforeseen Circumstances: Meraki Escape is a natural forest property with uneven terrain, water features, wildlife, changing weather, and other inherent outdoor conditions. Guests are responsible for exercising appropriate care and for their personal belongings. Meraki Escape is not responsible for lost or damaged personal property or the performance of independent third-party vendors. Circumstances beyond Meraki Escape’s reasonable control — including severe weather, natural events, government restrictions, road closures, or other force majeure events — may require services to be modified, relocated, postponed, or rescheduled in accordance with the signed event agreement.
